FAQ
How long does it take to crochet this chunky slanted ribbed beanie?
This cozy beanie works up very quickly thanks to the super bulky yarn. Most crocheters can finish it in 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, making it a perfect last-minute gift or winter market item.
What skill level is needed for this beanie pattern?
This pattern is beginner-friendly. If you can work basic stitches such as half double crochet and front-post stitches, you’ll be able to make this beanie successfully. The slanted rib look is created with a simple stitch repeat.
What yarn is best for this slanted ribbed beanie?
The pattern uses super bulky (weight 6) yarn. You’ll get the best stitch definition with soft, smooth yarns like chenille, wool blends, or acrylic super bulky yarns.
Can I adjust the size of the beanie?
Yes! You can easily adjust the width of the beanie by adding or removing rows from the starting rectangle before seaming. To adjust height, simply add or subtract rounds after the hat is joined.
Does this beanie have a lot of stretch?
Yes — the slanted rib texture naturally gives the beanie a stretchy, comfortable fit. If you prefer a tighter or looser fit, you can size up or down in hook size.
Can I add a pom-pom to the top of the beanie?
Absolutely! This beanie looks adorable with faux-fur pom-poms or yarn pom-poms. Simply stitch the pom-pom securely to the top after the beanie is finished.
Is this pattern good for craft fairs or selling finished items?
Yes! Because it’s a fast make with stylish texture, this beanie is ideal for:
- Markets
- Etsy shops
- Holiday gifts
You’re welcome to sell finished beanies made from this pattern — just please credit my blog with a link!
How do I get the slanted rib texture?
The texture comes from alternating front-post stitches and working into specific loops to create the diagonal rib look. Once you get the rhythm of the repeat, it becomes easy and relaxing.
Can beginners make the slanted rib look?
Yes! The stitches look advanced but follow a simple pattern repeat. Once you learn how to do a front-post stitch, the rest is very easy.

Leave a long tail to seam sides and top to create your beanie.
Construction
Using your long tail and yarn needle, use your favorite seaming stitch (I just use a simple whip stitch) to seam the two sides of your rectangle together.
I like to whip stitch through the back loops only, and turn my hat right side out.
Once you reach the end we will use the tail to continue to seam together the top.
Weave your needle in every other row, all around and cinch closed. If you still have a little bit of a gap, you can use your yarn needle and cross over 2-3 times to close the gap.
Tie off and weave in any loose ends!
